Car Smoking Bans 2012

In the United States, smokers know very well that they are not a special lot. The courts have held that position more than enough times and if what they hold is anything to go by, then more disappointments are in store for smokers. Recently, Ohio has proved to the other states how to go about prohibiting car smoking. Well that is good as it not rocket science to know that smoking in your car with children on board is harmful to their health just as it is to yours.

Car smoking bans actually picked up momentum in Wales before the whole fuss spread out to the USA. But where the bans or legislations prohibiting car smoking came from is immaterial. What really matters is that all smokers know what the law expects of them in regards to car smoking. While the position this legislation holds on insured car owners who freely smoke in their cars with their children is vague, it is still worth knowing that the legislation brings with it lots if goodies.

The Welsh government sponsored an initiative dubbed Fresh Start Wales where parents were encouraged to always stub out cigarettes before getting into their vehicles with their children and passengers. The initiative has brought about lots of debates and has actually been an eye opener to both smokers and non smokers on the dangers of second hand smoking.

Doctors claim that children are at a high risk of developing tobacco related conditions from harmful second hand smoke in vehicles more than in any other place. Their claim is actually justified because in a vehicle, a confined space means that there is no respite whatsoever from the harmful toxic chemicals found in cigarette smoke. As a result, children become susceptible to the smoking related diseases like lung cancer or respiratory conditions like asthma. If the situation goes completely out of hand, you may just have to deal with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

While the Columbus, Ohio bill only prohibits smoking when you have children under the age of six onĀ  board, some law critics think that is not enough. They are of the opinion that even children beyond the age of six can also be affected by second hand smoking just as their brothers and sisters under the age of six. Other critics are totally against the bill saying that it infringes personal freedom and every driver being a parent or not with or without children on board should freely choose whether or not to smoke in their cars. To some, that is a crude way of soliciting for personal freedom. The bottom line however is, every parent out there should be a responsible parent and act in the best interest of his or her children.

Smoking in your car with children on bard will not be harmful to your children but may end up introducing bad smoking habits with the children at an early age. It is therefore up to you as a parent to think outside the box and only smoke at the right place. Simply set the right example. It is our opinion that those that do smoke should consider e cigarette starter kits.
